our people
Not only our philosophies, but a wealth of corporate sustainability initiatives sit behind the luxury and style of our collections. Company staff enthusiastically engage in unique and creative projects.
Sustainability Tree
The ‘sustainability tree’ invites everyone within the organisation to share their personal experience and wisdom by writing a sustainability idea onto a paper ‘leaf’ and pasting the leaf onto the tree. Here are some of our ideas…
  • Try walking, busing or cycling to work at least once a week
  • Give gifts of you – time, expertise – rather than material items that may be thrown away
  • Turn off the lights whenever you leave a room
  • Bring in your cat at night so the native birds and animals don’t become a tasty snack!
  • Set up a worm farm
  • Use natural air conditioning – open a window!
  • Buy or trade recycled paint
  • Double-side your printing
  • Wash the car on the lawn, so it benefits from the water
  • Turn off the heat and put on a sweater
  • Buy organic fruit and vegetables at the local market
  • Create a native garden in your backyard as a habitat for native birds and animals
  • Put a bucket in the bottom of your shower until it heats up, and use that water on the garden
Spirit Team
Social sustainability is just as important to us. A ‘spirit team’ meets monthly, incorporating one person from each department. This team ensures any pressure within the company is identified and supported, while also running a variety of fun events such as pumpkin growing competitions, sausage sizzles, murder mysteries and Christmas cake cook-offs.
Elephant Mondays and Fro-Out Fridays
Staff frequently bring in any items from home that are no longer required. The items are displayed, silent bids are placed and the funds accumulated are used to fund the events mentioned above, or are donated to various causes at the discretion of the staff. It’s all about reusing and recycling!
The Children’s Christmas Party
This party involves children associated with the company - sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and friends - getting together for a mid-winter fun day, hand making the company ‘s annual Christmas cards using recycled card and scrap materials from production. The company then donates the equivalent value of purchasing commercially printed cards, and the children use these funds to purchase sustainable timber toys made in disabled people’s workshops. These toys are gifted to less fortunate children in the community at Christmas. All staff time for developing and managing this project is donated by our staff.
The Untouched World™ Charitable Trust
Staff often use their own holiday time to volunteer to help with the company-funded, Untouched World™ Charitable Trust project on Blumine Island in the Marlborough Sounds of New Zealand. A variety of raffles are also run throughout the year of items gifted to the company, with the funds raised donated to the Trust.
